Do smaller print shops offer better service?

I’ve been looking at different options for custom printing lately and noticed that smaller companies often promote a more personal approach compared to larger online services.

I recently found this company from West Auckland — they handle printing, uniforms, and branded products. What caught my attention was that they seem to work directly with customers instead of routing everything through automated systems.

For people who’ve ordered things like business cards, embroidered workwear, or branded merch before — does working with a smaller local company actually make the process easier? Or do the bigger online platforms usually work just as well these days?

The focus on local understanding often suggests an awareness of regional market trends and specific business needs within that area. A print shop that positions itself as having "local knowledge" might be better equipped to advise on graphic design choices or types of apparel that resonate with a local clientele. Furthermore, for businesses new to ordering custom products, direct contact can provide guidance through the proof approval stage, ensuring that everything is correct before moving into full production, which is a critical step to prevent costly reprints.
